How to protect yourself when selling items online – Seller’s Beware

Usually, if it sounds weird, it is! I listed a couch and loveseat recently on Facebook Marketplace and immediately started getting messages. I thought wow did I price it too low? But it didn’t take long, once I started conversing back and forth, to realize they all have similar storylines…   Call me at ***-****, I want to pick it up today.

I thought that is weird but after the first attempt to call a number, I got no answer and then a text immediately stating they are interested and need to make sure I am a person, can they send me a code. I said, you can facetime or call me back.  I then stated know I am real, I am replying to the text.  The “potential buyers” don’t take no for an answer so I did a little research and found they want your phone number and this code to have access to your information.  I found this story while looking up why a code: Scam Alert – Seller’s Beware!

COUCH FOR SALE

I, fortunately, didn’t fall for it and explained that they can call me or come look at the couch. None of this was what they had in mind. They wanted to scam me.

The next scam was messages sent stating they wanted it but couldn’t pick it up and needed to send me Zelle’s payment. Of course, they never have seen it and didn’t know me so why would they just want to send me money immediately.

I again wanted to see how this could be a scam since three messages in a row all said similar stores and sure enough, it is also a scam.  You see Zelle is legit and they just need your phone number to send the money. But they will claim they need more information, such as your email address. After reading up on this I have learned that this is not the case. They want it so they can gain access to your Zelle account and then your bank account.

I can’t imagine how many people these scammers scam a day. I imagine a lot if that many were trying to scam me at one time, this is a very popular attempt. You can never be too careful and again if it doesn’t feel right, it probably isn’t!

So many people are focusing more on health lately and that makes me so happy! If you are getting on the “improve your health” train, here are 6 ways to focus on your health

Focus on your eating

Whether weight loss is or is not one of your goals this year, focusing on your eating habits can dramatically help you improve your health this year. Why? For starters, eating a diet full of processed foods can slow down your metabolism, and you are probably eating a lot of ingredients that are not so good for you – ingredients that you can’t pronounce. That’s why reading nutritional labels on your food (if you are buying processed) is important. Look out for the total amount of calories a product contains, and not just for 1 serving (which is typically what’s stated on the label). But, when reading nutrition labels, it is not just about the calories. The most important part is the ingredients. Reading nutrition labels will help you to avoid only reading marketing labels like “high in fiber”, “low fat” or “zero sugar”, as these labels may be misleading. While a product is “high in calcium,” it could also be high in sugar – a detail you may have missed if you hadn’t read the nutrition label. Some of the better eating habits that you might want to focus on are: only buy processed foods with ingredients that you are familiar with, focus on more fresh produce and meat, cut out a lot of non-organic food, and reduce your portion sizes. As always, your eating habits should be fine-tuned to your specific needs and goals!

 

Stay current with appointments

Eat slower

Did you know that eating too quickly can cause weight gain? According to quite a bit of research, faster eaters are more likely to be overweight, as compared to people who eat more slowly. WHAT?! In one study, it was also suggested that this is 115% more likely to happen in middle-aged women. As you eat, your body releases ‘fullness hormones’ that tell your brain you’ve eaten and should stop. However, as this process takes about 20 minutes, speedy eaters may consume too much food and only receive this signal later – which explains the ‘post-buffet bloat’ you may feel after a satisfying meal. The next time you’re having a meal, make a conscious effort to eat slower and observe the effect on your appetite.

 

Get more sleep

Sleep deprivation affects both your physical and mental health. Our bodies need at least seven to eight hours of sleep (you might even need more depending on your current health and activity levels) during which our brains and bodies are working hard to maintain immune systems, memory strength, and even hunger levels. Some simple steps to getting enough sleep include setting a regular sleep-wake schedule, limiting caffeine, relieving stress, and getting enough physical activity, which will help to promote deeper, restful sleep.

 

Stay hydrated

You may have heard of the saying to “drink 8 glasses of water a day”, yet not many may follow this because a lot of people often choose to count their total liquid intake instead – which usually includes sodas, coffee, and other beverages. There are numerous benefits of drinking more water – it helps us to control our calorie intake, energizes our muscles, keeps our kidneys healthy, and hydrates the skin. As you stay hydrated with water, you’ll also find yourself having fewer cravings for sugary or less healthy beverages. Increasing your water intake will help you improve your health, no matter what your long-term goals are!

Work on your mental health

Health does not just begin and end with physical health. Mental health needs to be considered, as well, especially since mental health has been on the decline. A lot of these physical health goals or improvements should help with mental health (like eating better + working out). However, make sure you are focusing on your mental health as an individual thing to improve. You deserve to feel great both physically AND mentally.

There is always so much to do – everyone is on the go, the world is spinning around, and it might seem like we’re stuck in the middle with nowhere to go and nothing to say. Putting children in a space where they can be creative and explore is one of the best ways to help inspire them to be great.   • Teach your children to ask questions

If you want to truly encourage your children to think creatively, teach them to ask questions. Even if the questions go beyond the norm, they should be encouraged so that your child can explore. Those questions that start with what if are the questions that matter the most because then they can come up with unique answers and be imaginative and inspired at the same time. You could talk about what if there were lots of jelly at the end of the rainbow instead of pots of gold? You could ask what if one day your teacher was replaced by a giraffe? These are silly questions in the adult world, but for a child, they will conjure up those images in their minds and be able to put them to paper, you can draw the things that you discussed and see what it would look like if a giraffe was teaching a classroom full of children. It’s fun and it helps everybody to laugh and play.

 

  • Seek the positives

Children are supposed to make mistakes and they shouldn’t be berated for it. Adults make mistakes all the time and we cover our mistakes with explanations and begging for forgiveness. Berating a child for making a mistake they don’t know they are making is a problem. If you want to keep encouraging children to think creatively, or they are struggling with learning a new concept, you need to be able to help them to see it in a different light and remain patient with them. Berating them for making a mistake is a problem but seeking positives in a mistake they have made is beautiful. Does it matter if the sunshine on their paper is green instead of yellow? Does it matter if they have portrayed the family to include bears, lions, or tigers? Let them be creative and be gentle when you need to correct them.

 

  • Encourage their interests

If your child is more interested in crafting with plasticine than paint, stick to what they enjoy. There are a lot of sensory issues surrounding creativity and crafting, so don’t push the issue. Help your child to be creative in a way that’s comfortable for them and you ensure they are happy while they do it. If your child wants to learn to draw or sing, sign them up for lessons and classes that will help. No matter what your children are interested in, encourage that, feed that, and watch the creativity bloom.

 

  • Ask what they like

Children are naturally creative individuals but it’s only going to work that way if you ask them what they like to do. Open-ended questions can help to boost creativity as much as possible so that you can help them to answer questions in a broader way rather than just yes or no. It’s one of the best ways that you can help your children to form their ideas, which is exactly what you want to encourage as they grow up.

  • Get outside – and get muddy

If you want your children to think creatively they need to go and get creative – so get the galoshes on it’s time to get muddy! There is plenty of research to show that getting out into nature is not just good for mental health but can improve creativity, too. Studies show that spending time outdoors can enhance curiosity and encourage flexible thinking which is exactly what you want to do with the children. Children going outside means they get to spend time creating a whole new world that they are playing in. It’s why they play cowboys and bad guys and that’s why they play cops and robbers and that’s why they decorate the mud kitchen! Children get lucky, but it’s one of the ways that they can explore and expand their range.

 

  • Keep reading together

Creativity can be bred when you read together with your child. Reading allows you to spend time getting into the world that isn’t yours and understanding new concepts and new perceptions. As a grown-up, you probably love to read. Introducing your children to read as a whole new ballgame. Reading together and acting out the silly voices and talking about the story is a great way to help your child to expand their imagination. Help them to deep dive into a whole new world and make a point of reading a single day at least one chapter of a book. They will love the time spent with you but they will love being able to create this world and their minds even more.

5 Ways to Focus on Self-Growth

Self-growth is something that every single person can work on every day of their life, no matter how great they think they are. Self-growth is extremely important to focus on and it’s helpful to incorprate some sort of self-care and self-growth techniques each day. You might have heard the quote “Make the most of yourself for that is all there is of you” by Ralph Waldo Emerson and it is so true. You only have one life to live and if you take care of yourself and try to grow and improve each day, you will have a life that was well lived at the end of your time here on Earth. 

 

We all make mistakes and it is very easy to get off track with your self-growth if you let it get to you, but that does not mean that we cannot take those moments of weakness and turn them into something great. Take those mistakes and turn them into learning experiences so that the next time a situation like that one rolls around, you will know exactly what to do. That’s what growing is all about. We start from the bottom and learn to work our way up into greatness – we are not born into it, so give yourself grace and love because growth will come in time.

Forgive

Just as I mentioned above, you need to give yourself grace. It is easy to get upset at yourself if you did not handle a situation the right way, but take that as a learning opportunity and forgive yourself for your behavior. Whatever you are holding onto – forgive. Forgiving yourself is so important because you cannot fully move and grow until you do so. Also, make sure you forgive the ones around you, as well. So many people hold on to negativity and feelings of hate and this is huge because you are being dragged down by these feelings each day. Once you forgive yourself and others, you will be set free.

 

Focus on transparency

Transparency is the foundation of everything. Practicing transparency means being vulnerable and honest, and accepting your story. You have to honest, especially with yourself. Practicing transparency means complete honesty in where you’re at, what you’re struggling with, and the courage to chase that string down to find out why. This leads to the second half of practicing transparency: accepting your story. Most people want to rip out chapters; they spend their days regretting and wishing things didn’t happen the way they did. But this keeps you stuck in what could have been instead of what can be. The more you accept your story, the more transparent you will be. And the more you practice transparency, the richer your growth.

Shoot for the stars

Aim for bigger and better things and reach for the stars. When you have big goals to reach, it will definitely help you stay on track with your growth. You can make big goals for yourself, but you also need to make smaller, more attainable goals to hit along the way, as well, so that you do not feel like you are not accomplishing anything. When you hit each small goal, you will feel so proud of yourself (and your growth), and it will motivate you to keep continuing on. 

 

Don’t be afraid to say no

Say no when you need to and do it frequently. In our day and age, we’ve learned to be the “Yes Man” – the person who is down for everything. I’m sure you’ve heard the term, ride or die. Kailyn Lowry and Ex Jo Rivera Became “Best Friends” Again After Her Divorce

They have had their fair share of ups and downs, but now, Kailyn Lowry reveals that she and ex Jo Rivera have become “best friends” again after her very violatile split from Javi Marroquin. Kailyn, who shares custody of her 7 year old son Issac with Jo, opened up to MTV news about her relationship with her ex. The two, who were former high school sweethearts, have not been on good terms for the past few years. “Jo and I hated each other’s guts… we were not good friends and we barely coparented.” The blonde beauty revealed. “All of a sudden, it’s a complete 180. Now we’re best friends- I can tell him anything. I can call him, and we can switch weekends easily, or if I need him to get Issac from school, we are so good now.”

 

Jo, who is now father to a 17 month old daughter ViVi, with his longtime girlfriend Vee Torres, and Kailyn fought much of the time during their stint on “16 and Pregnant”, and also on “Teen Mom 2”, so it’s so nice to see them getting along now. You may be excited about the thought of fresh eggs from your chickens and homegrown fruit, but it’s important not to get ahead of yourself. Building your homestead is serious business, and it doesn’t mean just doing whatever pops into your head. Here are a few tips to help you prepare for making the most out of your new homestead!

Chicken housing

When raising chickens, you will need to provide housing for them. Chickens can be kept in a coop or barn, but I would highly recommend getting an outdoor pen for your chickens. A good place for a chicken pen is near the garden where they can eat bugs that are attracted to the fruits and vegetables you plant in your garden. Alternatively, you could also use it as a holding area at night until morning when you let them out into their pasture (chickens love eating grass).

When building your pen make sure that there are no gaps between boards on the fence or it may allow predators like cats and raccoons to enter easily!

Chicken feed

Chickens are omnivores, which means they eat both plants and animals. They need a lot of vitamins and minerals to grow up strong and healthy. So what do you feed your chicks?

Chick Starter is the good basic food for young chicks who have just started laying eggs or have not yet laid any eggs at all. The ingredients in this type of feed are ground corn, soybean meal, corn gluten meal, wheat middling, and dried whey protein concentrate (this last ingredient is high in calcium). The addition of soybean meal makes this chicken feed lower in protein than other types of chick starters but still provides plenty for young growing birds.

Chickens are a great addition to your homestead. Not only do they produce eggs, but they also eat pests and weeds! Chickens are one of the best ways to fertilize your soil and keep it healthy.

They can even help with pest control by eating insects like ticks or grubs that can harm your plants.

Buying fruit trees

A fruit tree is a perennial plant that bears fruit, typically edible and sweet. There are thousands of different varieties, including apples, pears, persimmons, and cherries. Fruit trees can be grown from seeds or grafted onto rootstock (the roots of another tree).

Fruit trees should be planted in the dormant season when the days are short and cool. The ideal soil pH for most fruit trees is 6.0–6.5; however, some fruits prefer slightly more acidic or alkaline soil conditions than this range allows for optimal growth so check before buying!

The purpose is twofold: 1) To impart certain characteristics (such as hardiness or disease resistance) into an existing tree so that it may withstand adverse weather conditions better than its genetics would allow; 2) To alter the shape of the tree so that it conforms more readily to certain horticultural practices common across different regions or climates where they might be grown. * Pollination – For a fruit tree seedling planted at home today will eventually produce apples tomorrow, one must ensure adequate pollination takes place between two compatible apple varieties on opposite sides of their shared fence line next door. * Storing fruits after harvest should ideally occur indoors away from direct sunlight within containers lined with waxed paper before refrigeration inside plastic bags filled with water acts as an additional barrier against mold growth.<br┤

How To Help Your Child Settle Into A New School

Changing schools can be difficult for children, at any age. Often, moving to a new home, and losing touch with school friends and families can cause a lot of emotional and behavioral issues. 

 

There are several things that you can do to ease the transition. 

Seek help with any existing behavioral issues first

If your child has any existing issues around anxiety, depression, poor self-esteem, or similar, then changing schools could potentially make these worse. Start preparing them as soon as possible

It might seem like a good idea to shorten the amount of anxiety or upset your child might feel by not telling them about the move until the last minute. While it might be easier for you, it’s not good for them in the long run. Tell them as soon as possible and talk to them about how they’re feeling.  

Keep it upbeat

Even young children can pick up on things that you say, or any negative feelings you might have towards the move. 

 

So when you’re talking to your child about the move or even discussing things with your partner, don’t discuss any negatives or concerns you may have had. Focus on the exciting aspects and keep it positive. 

Let them get involved

The feeling of overwhelm in your child can often stem from having no control over their situation. After all, they probably weren’t involved in choosing a new house or school.  Find things that you can give them some choice over, like decorating their new room, or choosing their bag and stationery for their new school. These might be small things but they can go a long way to giving your child some feeling of control over their life. 

Try and meet new classmates outside of school

Making new friends is going to be the key to settling into a new school environment. Try and get the contact details of some of the parents in your child’s new class and set up a few playdates before they start school. That way, when they show up for their first day, they’ll already know people. 

Keep in touch with old friends too

Try to keep ties to your child’s previous friends and school. It’s good for them to maintain these connections, especially if they’ve been particularly close. Even if you’ve moved far away, you can still have video chats. 

Give them time

There’s no timetable for your child to feel at home in a new school and make a lot of new friends. In some cases, it may be quick, for others, it might take months or longer. It may not be a straight path either, your child might settle in relatively quickly, but then begin to feel the stresses of being in a new environment later on. There’s no right or wrong.
