6 Activities to do with children that are free!!

I have three amazing grandson’s, ages 4, 3 & 2. We love to do activities and stay busy. They are always wanting to try something new! I try to think of fun things to do with them, that not only will save me money but will be memorable for them. I love knowing they are going to remember doing things with their Mimi and Poppy even when they get older.

  1. Attending church functions

Churches have a lot of fun activities for children. Our own church, has a children’s church monthly, kids classes and they do a pot luck after church every week.  All of this is free of course and not only fun for your child but you will meet amazing people!

2. Fly a kite

Children love to do anything outside, we love taking kites out and spending hours flying them. Living near a beach is great because of the breeze to help us get those kites high in the sky.

3. Go to a park

I love to pack snacks, drinks and toys for our park, they will play for hours as long as we have everything we need. They could care less if we eat out as long as they are having fun, so you could even make sandwiches and have a picnic. If the weather doesn’t permit outside fun, we do a board game day and have a picnic inside!

4. Rock painting

Living in Rockport, Texas, there is a group that actually goes around to parks and hides these amazing inspirational rocks all over. My grands love to spend time painting rocks for their parents, some to hide and for each other rocks. We make an adventure out of it, going around to find the perfect rock, then once we are done taking them to parks to hide. This is very inexpensive to do!

5. Fishing

Having boys this is an easy one, their poppy loves to fish and takes them every chance he can to share this with them. They are now hooked (no pun intended). We can spend hours fishing, as long as they are biting. Most states don’t require children to have fishing licenses.

6. Plant a garden

We plant a garden every year and the boys love to “help” little do they know they are learning so much about providing for their family and taking care of the earth. They love to work in the garden with their poppy and he gets “free” help.

These are just a few things we do to spend quality time with our grandsons without spending a fortune. I would love to hear your suggestions or how you save money spending time with your loved one!

10 Advantages of Living in a Condo #condolife #secondhome #fishing

We were recently relocated due to work, but did not want to sell our home, so we opted to purchase a condo as our second home to stay in while working.

We quickly realized how nice and convenient this is. Here are just some reasons I  love it!!

  1. While not here, we can earn money renting it out.
  2. We don’t have to do any upkeep of the lawn or anything outside of our condo.
  3. We have a pool, tennis court & lighted pier we can use.
  4. Our water and cable are included in our HOA.
  5. Beautiful sunrises and sunsets
  6. Friendly neighbors
  7. Grandkids want to come visit!
  8. We have a community grill & picnic tables available all the time.
  9. It is animal-friendly.
  10. It is safe.

I love watching the wildlife here, so far we have seen a red fox, two coyotes, and tons of birds. We also have a dolphin that comes to visit our pier often. This has been such a fun experience. If you are looking for a retirement home or just a place to spend vacations, look at condos!

Lastly, the views are breathtaking. I love just sitting outside and watching the views.

I’m turning 50 and I like it…. A fishing trip.

“Did you hear that?”, I turned to look at what I was supposed to be hearing, but all I could see is water. At that point, I thought maybe my husband or myself were literally going crazy. It is 6:30 in the morning and the sun is just coming up and we are sitting in a boat on the water….

My husband and I have been married for almost 18 years now. I came into this marriage with three children, who we have raised together and are now adults. Every weekend, he loves to go fishing, I was sitting on the boat reflecting how this wasn’t my favorite past time, but Robby, my hubby, sure does love it.

So off we go this morning to fish the day away…As the day started I landed the first redfish and thought wow this isn’t so bad after all. I began teasing my husband who is ad avid fisherman and really great at it. I then land an even bigger redfish than before, of course, each time he put his pole down and netted for me as I continued to tease him about how he better be glad I came cause at least we get to eat supper!!

I then landed an even bigger redfish than before. Of course, each time he had put his pole down and net for me. I continued to tease him about how he better be glad I came because at least we get to eat supper!!

This continued throughout the morning while I caught 4 big keepers to his one, then it dawned on me, he is doing this to make sure I have a great time. Each time he would stop fishing to net my fish, recheck my bait and make sure he put me in a position to catch the big one.

I realized right then, how happy I am. I am not just talking about catching the most fish but in life. I turn 50 this year and was determined to not be depressed about it but what I didn’t realize is how happy I could be about it.

I am married to my best friend, blessed with three successful children, have three amazing grandsons and I still have my parents and we love God.

Even after our morning fishing trip, he cleaned the boat, cleaned the fish and offered to fry me up some for supper. Now I know I am blessed.
