However, in recent years it’s been shown that if you really want to help your furry friend develop the skills and knowledge that you need from them, then positive reinforcement is the way to go. Previously, it was thought that a heavy hand when it came to discipline was the most effective training method but positive reinforcement can often have even better results as well as leaving your pooch feeling much happier and more comfortable. It takes time to form habits and understanding, and dogs need that level of commitment from you in order to understand what they should be doing. Don’t assume that you only need to try a couple of simple things and then you can just get back to lazing around on the couch all day long!

 

Get the whole family involved

 

Of course, just because training your dog is hard work doesn’t mean that you have to do it all on your own. Why not get the whole family involved so that you spread the hard work across all of you. That way not only do you get a break every now and then but you can be sure that your furry friend’s training is totally consistent. After all, the last thing you want is to spend all of your time training them only to have well-meaning family members undo all of your hard work by spoiling the dog too much. Make sure that you and your family all understand the method that you’re using to train your pet as well as ensuring that you all spend an equal amount of time doing it so that no one ends up feeling like they’ve been short-changed. After all, you’re bringing in a new addition for the benefit of the whole family so it only makes sense that the whole family should chip in and help to train it. Of course, this is still going to take a fair amount of time, but it will almost certainly be a much faster and easier process if your whole family chips in and helps.

 

The truth is that owning a pet is a lot of hard work. Sure, the joy that they bring into your life can be worth it, but you need to consider if it’s a responsibility that you’re ready for. Getting Ready for a Picture-Perfect Holiday

This year has been a big year for me, I turned the big “50,” I am a Mimi to three little boys, and I retired from teaching.
