6 ways to own a business while being a mom

Owning and running a business while being a mom might seem impossible, but I promise you that it’s not. Is it hard? Sure! But impossible? No. Today, I want to talk about ways to own a business while being a mom. Let’s dive into the nitty-gritty details:

Set aside time

My biggest tip, which is why I’m writing it down first, is to set aside time. If you don’t have time to devote to your business, you will fail. To make this happen, you need to make sure that the time you are setting aside is productive. What do I mean by that? It’s hard to take meetings and write emails when your kids are screaming in the background, on top of you, or asking for a snack every other minute. To make this productive time, you need to 1) set aside time and 2) make sure it’s productive time by hiring a sitter or asking family to help with the kids.

Automate as much as possible

Next up: automate as much as you can. The more you can automate, the better. Emails, newsletters, social media, and other larger things like security cameras, and more. Just make sure that you have protection on everything you automate. For example, for your security cameras, make sure they are protected. Criterion Technology, Inc. makes domes (essentially) that protect cameras from burglars and harsh weather, too. They make all of their products in the USA and they are based out of GA, too! If you need injection molding lense services, you now know who to call!

Check in without getting distracted

While on the job, devote 20 minutes to calling your kids to check on them. Of course, if an urgent matter arises, it is understandable that you’ll need to set work aside to tend to your children. Otherwise, try to handle family matters when you’re at home and work matters when you’re at work. Similarly, take 20 minutes to check work emails and review any necessary tasks when you’re at home.

Don’t compare yourself to others

It’s human nature to compare ourselves to others, but don’t let yourself go there! As a working mom, you’re expected to juggle running a successful small business, and taking care of your family. You may not be able to attend every soccer game or every business meeting, but as long as you’re doing your best, that is what matters.

Write everything down

Get a planner and religiously log all of your small business and family obligations. As a mom and entrepreneur, you mustn’t neglect either role. Choose a digital or physical planner; whichever you think you’ll consistently use. Get into the habit of writing down tasks that seem easy to remember, like driving the kids to school, or opening your business’s store at 9 am. Writing things down will help you feel in control of your schedule, and eliminate the stress of forgetting your child’s school play or an important business meeting!

Take a break

As much as you love your family and are passionate about your small business, sometimes you need to take a break from both. Taking time for yourself will allow you to be a more attentive mother and productive business owner. One of the most important tips for working moms is to make sure you don’t get burnt out! If you find yourself getting over-worked, unplug, and take some time to relax. Your family and employees will thank you when you come back refreshed!

If you follow these tips for working moms, you’ll be able to manage the responsibilities of being a mom and entrepreneur! Owning a business while being a mom is challenging, but you can do it with a few tips and tricks like these!
