Little Things That Make Life With Pets Easier

Sharing your home with a pet is one of life’s simple joys – they’re loyal, funny, loving, and a fantastic companion. However, as much as we love our pets, it’s no secret that pets can bring a lot of chaos, mess, and confusion into your life (and home) as well. There will be muddy pawprints, chewed-up corners of furniture, and fur pretty much everywhere, so it’s true that living with pets needs some thinking about and it needs some hacks to make it all a bit easier, for everyone’s sake. With that in mind, keep reading to find out more about some little things that make life with pets easier.

Keep The Essentials In One Place

It might sound obvious, but having one dedicated space for all your pet’s gear makes a huge difference – and they’ll have a lot of gear in most cases. There will be things like leads, treats, bedding, medication, grooming tools, toys, and so much more, and when it’s all stored together, you’ll save time and cut down on last-minute panics when you need something.

And it’s so easy to find space for all this stuff – just a basket or a wall-mounted organiser or perhaps a dedicated cupboard (it depends how much space you actually need) can work really well. Once you’ve worked out where to put things, you won’t be spending ages searching for things, but do be careful and make sure your pet can’t get into the cupboard, especially if there’s treats in there.

Make Sure Everything’s Washable

Pets and mess go hand in hand, and that might mean a muddy dog after a wet walk, or a cat who loves to throw their litter everywhere, or perhaps a hamster who likes to make sure their sawdust ends up outside their cage rather than in it, for example. So what you’re going to need to make life easier is washable items – the more the merrier.

When you’re buying things for your pets, you’ll need to check that they’re machine washable, and that includes beds, blankets, or perhaps even covers for your furniture. Even rugs that can handle being put in the wash on a regular basis are a good idea. Not only will that keep things clean, but it’ll also help to make your home feel and smell nicer at the same time, and that’s always a bonus when you’ve got pets.

Make The Car Pet-Friendly

If your pet often travels with you, whether it’s to the park, the vet, or on a long road trip, for example, it’s worth making sure the car is totally pet-friendly for them. Something that will really come in handy is a boot liner or seat cover because that’s going to help contain the mess, and you should also invest in a portable water bowl because that means stopping less often – ideal when you just want to get where you’re going.

Of course, no matter what you do, fur still seems to get everywhere, and if you’ve ever tried to vacuum pet hair out of car upholstery, you’ll know it’s not easy. So, for a deeper clean, many owners like to use pet hair car detailing services because they’re more than just the usual vacuum job. It’s especially useful if you or anyone who goes in your car has any allergies because it’ll stop them flaring up, so even if you’re not that bothered about fur in your car, it might help someone else.

Find The Right Brush

A good grooming routine can prevent a lot of issues, and regular brushing helps with shedding, keeps your pet’s coat healthy, and even cuts down on the amount of fur you find in your carpet, on your cushions, and anywhere else it might end up, no matter how much you might try to prevent it.

Of course, you’ll find that different types of coats need different brushes, so it’s worth doing a bit of research or asking your vet or groomer what’s going to work best for your specific pet because having the right brush is going to make the job a whole lot easier (and a lot more effective). Now it’s true that some pets don’t like being groomed, but don’t let that put you off – it still has to be done. The key is to make it quick (even if it means tackling a little bit at a time), and make sure it’s a positive experience (treats are always good for that). In that way, your pet will soon become happier about grooming, and life will get easier for both of you.
