Math Tips You Need To Know

Some of us are naturally great at math, and some of us aren’t. Math is a subject that can be either the best or worst for you in school and it is no wonder so many people become stressed over it now and again.

Today we are going to take a look at some easier ways to think about math, whether you use a service like Cazoom Math or go it alone, and we will look at things to consider when approaching a math problem.

Take it slow

When you first see a math problem in front of you it can be daunting and your first reaction might be to panic. But remember, even the most complex math problems can be solved with a simple set of steps. Slow down and think logically. What step would you want to take first and how can you make this problem simpler for yourself? For example, if you were to find 15% of 360, the simple way to do this would be to find 10%, half it, then add.

So in this case, 10% of 360 is 36

36 / 2 is 18

36 + 18 is 54. So 15% of 360 is 54.

Practice

When trying to wrap your head around a difficult concept in math it is important for you to make sure that you practice as much as you can. Practice makes perfect and it can make the world of difference to you if you practice the same style of problem again and again.

Use BODMAS

Brackets, Orders, Division, Multiplication, Addition, and Subtraction. This is the order you should use every time you are trying to solve a math problem. If you get a math problem that contains brackets and multiple other things, then it is best to remember this order so that you don’t end up messing it up. For example:

(2×3) + 4 – 1 x (4/2)

So this would turn into:

6 + 4 – 1 x 2

6 + 4 – 2

10 – 2

Review Errors

The best thing you can do for yourself when solving a math problem is to take the time to write down the working out. This is not only a great way for you to keep track of what you are doing but it will also allow you to review it after. If you finish the equation and get the answer wrong, it is important for you to go back through your notes and start again from the top. Take a look at every single step you took to get here and see where the error occurred. It could be a wrong step or a miscalculation, and knowing this will help you change next time and improve.

Don’t give up

Math is a difficult subject to grasp and it can be daunting for many of us. It is crucial that you don’t let the subject overtake you and make you feel stressed. If you are having issues, step away and try again with a fresh head, but never give up on it or your ability to work it out.
